Alpine Ski Center
was established in 1976 in Banner
Elk, North Carolina - just outside the entrance to Sugar Mountain Ski Resort.
At that time, Skiing was new in the South and Southern Skiers were just taking
up the sport. Skiing has now grown to be a major tourist industry in
North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia and Southern Skiers travel to
ski slopes here and around the world.
Alpine Ski Center is now celebrating
our 28th year in business. We have grown from our original location
in Banner Elk to seven through out the Carolinas and Tennessee.
Originally Alpine's only business
was skiing - we opened the doors in September, and closed them in April each
year. Our goal was to be the best Ski Specialty Shop in the South.
A place where both beginners and experts could come for dependable advice,
expert service and the best winter sports products available - all at reasonable
prices.
Over the years we've added snowboarding
and skiboarding to our winter selection, and in-line skating, swimwear and
water sports equipment for our summer programs. And now, all of our
shops with the exception of Beech Mountain are open year round.
Although we've added locations
and expanded the products we carry, our objective of "dependable advice, expert
service, and the best products available - all at reasonable prices" has remained
the same and, we believe, is the cornerstone for the success we've enjoyed.
Our buying and administrative
headquarters are in Banner Elk, and the people who work in the offices along
with the people who operate each Alpine Ski Center are dedicated to earning
the respect of our customers and providing the best winter sports shopping
and service available in the market.
Alpine has twice been named "Retailer
of the Year" by Ski Industry of America - We are proud to have received this
award which acknowledges ski shops that offer superior service and make significant
contributions to the growth of winter sports.
SKI magazine polls its
readers to rate 1,200 North American ski shops on staff expertise, selection,
value, back shop services, boot fitting, and innovative programs. Alpine Ski Center has been selected three years consecutive as one of North
America's 60 Best Ski Shops and was awarded
with the "Gold Medal Ski Shop"
award for 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004; the best award and recognition any company
could receive is by the people they work for - you the Client! We are
proud to be included in America's "Best Shops" and we are committed to doing
everything we can to provide the best in selection, service, and value to
skiers and snowboarders.
